We are very mindful of the global issues that we face today and our obligation to take steps whenever possible to address these. With this in mind, Eric Sturdza Investments has elected to work with the Eden Reforestation Projects (“Eden”) as part of our annual charitable engagement project in 2019.
Eden is an international non-profit committed to alleviating extreme poverty and restoring healthy forest systems. Through their “Employ to Plant” methodology, over 3,500 local villagers have been employed to plant an average of 4.5 million trees every month.
Since Eden’s launch in 2005, over 285 million trees have been planted, and, as a result of consistent employment, Eden’s employees are now sending their children to school and able to afford food, clothing, and medical care.
Eden has active projects in Nepal, Madagascar, Haiti, Indonesia and Mozambique and has recently expanded their work into Kenya. Their work has a myriad of benefits, both from an environmental and human perspective as depicted below:
We are delighted to be able to provide support to Eden’s work, with our charitable donation leading to the planting of over 50,000 tress in 2020, and hope that this in some way can support the team’s effort to slow the deforestation and provide opportunities to locals that are living below the international poverty line.
