Eric Sturdza Investments is proud to support the Guernsey Sailing Trust, a local charity aiming to make sailing accessible to all. We have provided the Trust with a new sailing dinghy and a supply of sails, as part of a support package lasting three years, which is essential for giving young children the opportunity to sail.

Eric Sturdza Investments is honoured to support a local organisation which can enhance the lives of local children, providing access to a new environment, to learn new skills and team work, problem solving and increased confidence.

Established in 1988, the Guernsey Sailing Trust – locally known as the GST – aims for every child to have had the opportunity to sail by the time they reach secondary school. Over the past year alone the GST has seen over 2,400 students. Outside of the schools’ courses, the GST also offers a ‘Sailability’ programme, providing the opportunity to sail for physically and mentally disabled people through the use of specialist boats and equipment, working alongside special needs schools and health and social care groups.

The GST is fortunate to have the use of a large purpose-built pond named ‘The Victoria Boat Pond’ which was officially opened in the summer of 1887 by Miss Elkington, young daughter of the then Lt-Governor, John Henry Ford Elkington. It was intended for ‘instruction in model yacht pond sailing as well as for the amusement for all classes of society,’ reported the Guernsey Magazine at the time. Still in use today, the pool is approximately half a meter in depth enabling young children to learn to sail in a safe and controlled environment before progressing to the sea. Learn more about the pool and its history in this article by the Guernsey Press.
